in the box

As I ate some eggs and an english muffin for breakfast this morning, I commented to the kids about how much I’ve been enjoying the jar of plum butter from Aunt Phoebe that I recently opened. Hayden wanted to know whether she was younger or older than me, so I mentioned that she has a birthday coming up in a few weeks, and that we should be sure to send her something.

“Yeah,” he said. “In a BOX.”

Clearly, the box of goodies she sent for his birthday made an impression on him! He wanted to work on her gift right away, but I thought it was more important to get ready for school… So as I drove to work a bit later, I started thinking about what special treats we will put in the box.

If a box showed up on your doorstep with your name written on it, what would you hope to find inside? What items are on your wish list? I’d love to know.

  1. Once, my parents sent me a package of Candy Cane Joe-Joes from Trader Joe’s (which, as you know, can’t be found in harrisonburg)…that was it, no note or anything. One of the best packages I’ve ever received! And this past Easter I sent my sister and brother-in-law an “easter basket” (purple/green easter grass included) with just a variety of easter candy, particularly things we always got in our childhood baskets. It was fun and nostalgic to put together, and I know they appreciated getting the treats! It’s nice to just know that someone’s thinking about you. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. If it weren’t so heavy to mail, I would like to see a jar of canned mangoes in it. Yum.

  3. During college, my mom would send halloween boxes with costume-type things. I loved my “nerd kit” (Even my sister didn’t know right away it was me!) I would like chocolate or fun baby stuff that I wouldn’t buy myself ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. found your blog from elise blaha…love it!!!!…i’d want those fingerless crocheted gloves, some yummy teas to share with my sons (they are 15 and love drinking tea), some local honey, a journal…
